Why is it important to have a Foundation? A Foundation is an organization established to raise additional funds to enhance and expand the quality of education for all Park Village Students. Funds raised may be used on short-term or long-term projects that benefit the school and enhance education.
A Foundation can solicit funds from community members and businesses that are willing to support our goals and objectives.
During this time of budget cuts, establishing a Foundation will help our community maintain and create quality programs for students at Park Village Elementary.

What is the difference between our PTA and this new Foundation? The Park Village PTA provides programs and activities that enhance the students’ educational experience and build community at our school. For example, the PTA supports programs such as Bingo Night, Assemblies, Field Trips, Talent Show, Reflections, Yearbook, The Flash, Multi-Cultural Fair and Health & Parent Education.
The PTA raises funds to support these programs. The funds raised must be spent in the same year. Some PTA fundraisers have included Gift Wrap, Book Fair, Box Tops, and Entertainment Books.
The Foundation monies raised can be carried forward and not used in the same year.
The Foundation can fund specialist staff salaries out of money raised (Art, Science, Music or Computer Lab Specialists etc).
The PTA and Foundation will work closely together to ensure that programs and fundraising efforts do not conflict.

Will the money be used exclusively at our school site or will it be shared across the Poway Unified School District? Monies raised and/or donated to the Foundation will be used exclusively for Park Village Elementary School and not spread throughout the district. The Board of Directors and Officer are all volunteer positions.

As the Foundation raises funds to implement programs does that mean that future PUSD or State funding will be cut? The money the Foundation raises does not have any affect on how much the state allocates to the districts during any given year. The funding that PUSD receives from the state supports CORE academic programs such as reading, math, science and social studies. The funding in the area of science and social studies primarily supports textbook purchases. The money that the Foundation raises will be used to support additional programs for all kids at Park Village in the areas of art, music, technology and science.

Who decides where the money goes and how were the four areas of need identified? Based upon two parent surveys last year, the four areas of Technology, Art, Music and Science were identified as top priorities. The Foundation also works in unison with teacher representatives, a PTA liaison and our Principal to ensure funds are disbursed in accordance with the needs of our school.
